Abstract

Hemifacial spasm is characterized by rhythmic, involuntary, tonic or clonic contractions of unilateral facial muscles innervated by the facial nerve. Hemifacial spasm is believed to be a peripheral nerve disorder secondary to lesions where the facial nerve leaves the brainstem. Herein is reported a patient presenting with left hemifacial spasm and diagnosed with an epidermoid tumor at the cerebellopontine angle. Epidermoid tumors are rare cerebellopontine angle tumors, but they are the most common tumor type to cause facial nerve compressions; therefore it should be kept in mind in the investigation of the etiology of hemifacial spasms.
