Clinical and demographic evaluation of hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm patients living in Afyonkarahisar

Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to evaluate clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with hemifacial spasm (HFS) and blepharospasm (BS) living in Afyonkarahisar province.
Patients and Methods: Between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2022, a total of 48 patients including 35 HFS and 13 BS (16 males, 32 females; mean age: 61.6±9.7 years) who were followed in the Department of Neurology, Movement disorders outpatient clinic of a tertiary care center were included.
Results: The rate of HFS due to prior history of Bell’s palsy was 27.2%. Three of 13 BS patients had a history of neuroleptic treatment. Vascular abnormality, compressed the facial nerve was established in four of 35 HFS patients. The cranial magnetic resonance imaging in BS patients were also normal.
Conclusion: In our study, patients with HFS and BS living in Afyonkarahisar province were evaluated.
