Abstract

Corticobasal degeneration is one of the rare types of Parkinson plus syndromes, which is characterized by signs of cerebral cortex and basal ganglia involvement. A sixty-four-year-old female patient consulted for clumsiness in both hands -but more prominent in the left hand- present for three years and especially increased in the last year. In her history, there was nothing of importance except for an operation for meningioma on the left side of the cranium 12 years ago. Her neurological examination revealed ideomotor apraxia on both hands, but more marked on the left hand, cortical sensory deficit (astereognosia, agraphesthesia, abaragnosia) on the left side, mild bradymimia, tremor on the left hand, rigidity in the left arm and mild cognitive impairment. In the magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, there was right frontoparietal atrophy. According to the patient’s symptoms, neurological examination, brain imaging findings and non-responsivity to levodopa treatment, she was diagnosed with a corticobasal degeneration which is a neurodegenerative disease. As it is a rare disease, this case was found to be valuable for presentation.
