Abstract

Eyelid opening apraxia is a condition characterized by inability to open the eyes voluntarily. Eyelid opening apraxia is one of the most commonly seen complications of the subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (DBS) performed in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. In this article, we report a 66-year-old female patient with Parkinson’s disease who presented with eyelid opening apraxia developed six months after bilateral subthalamic nucleus DBS and treated succcessfully with botulinum toxin type A injection into the pretarsal portions of the orbicularis oculi muscles.
